Also, going for a FG down three scores with 10 min left...if Shaw doesn't give an answer, then the obvious unspoken answer is the really disappointing and uncharacteristic answer about motivation...

Although nobody seems willing to verbalize it, I think the answer is in the back of everybody's mind. Shaw figured we weren't going to win this game at this point, but that he needs Toner to be good the rest of the year. Show some confidence in him and let him get back on track. Didn't work out that way, but I am pretty sure that was the thinking.

I can see that argument, but if I am correct, Shaw couldn't do anything but dodge the question. It also may have pissed him off, so why risk it?

Oh no . . . he might be "pissed" at me if I ask him a basic question that any decent reporter should ask?!?  

Good God, the entire media have been a bunch of lap dogs for the most unqualified offensive coach at Stanford since . . . I don't know when.  The Dark Times were awful, including offensively, but they didn't have the horses that Stanford has had under Shaw's watch (and credit for that largely goes to Shaw).  Shaw should thank his lucky stars that he coaches at a school that doesn't give a rip about football, has a fan base that doesn't care, either, and media participants that collectively lack balls.

P.S.  If you ever have time to burn, scroll around on YouTube and look at teams - even from the 80s (when the team record wasn't good) - and watch those teams play offense.  It looks so much more energized and creative (but perhaps that's just my Old Man's "back in my day" thinking kicking in).
