Not unless they recently changed the rule. As I understand it the first two years a beach scholarship player can not participate on the indoor team. They can play indoors their junior and senior years.
It was put in place when beach volleyball was approved as an NCAA sport. The purpose was to prevent schools from creating a "sham" beach VB team to provide additional scholarship players for the indoor team.
That's kind of puzzling. Having the beach recruit's scholarship count towards the indoor team as soon as she plays in an indoor match (as happens with other similar two sport situations) would already prevent using the beach team to effectively get extra indoor scholarships. Hmm, but maybe the idea is to prevent stashing players on the beach team with beach scholarships while they are really effectively redshirting or acting as practice players for the indoor team...? Does the rule against "participating" with the indoor team include practicing?
