600 confirmed tank losses for the Russians according to Oryx, likely a lot more as it takes a while to catch up, and a lot of the Mariupol losses likely can't be documented by the Ukrainians.  Most estimates were that Russia had 1,200 tanks assigned for the invasion of Ukraine.  Another testament to the failures by Russia.

I see a lot of reporting about Russia's failures.  Although Russia may well be inept, it's still doing a tremendous amount of damage.  Even seemingly pro-Ukrainian biased sources like Institute for the Study of War are noting the extent of damage that Russia is causing.  Here's today's report, for example:  https://www.understandingwar.org/backgro...ment-may-2.  No advances by Russia.  All they did today was conduct shelling of Ukrainian cities.  Sure, the Ukrainians conducted a counterattack that retook a small town north of Kharkiv, but ISW notes that the battle was very costly to the Ukrainians.  I continue to have the impression that neither side is going to have much success moving the current battle lines.  The problem is that Russia's apparently planning to permanently occupy the terriotry it grabbed.  I'm seeing reports that they're requiring use of the ruble, changing curriculum in schools, planning sham elections, etc.  I'm grateful that Ukraine has repelled the recent Russian attacks, but that doesn't change the fact that Russia currently controls a big slice of Ukraine.
