Interesting article but I think it tries too hard to make every recent development seem positive. I would not characterize a deal to buy more oil from Venezuela as a show of American strength. It may well be necessary in these trying times, but the decision will finance an unfriendly authoritarian government in our backyard. Venezuela was always going to say yes to selling more oil, and we should view America’s decision to go along as an unfortunate though necessary consequence of the war in Ukraine.
