Why would the Big 10 schools want to do this? Every school added to the conference dilutes the share of the tv money that the legacy schools receive.
The B10 must believe (perhaps because some investment bankers and/or consultants are telling them so) that the value of an expanded conference will increase by enough in their next broadcasting rights negotiation to offset the dilution from the added schools.
And the remaining P12 schools will be much less valuable for their upcoming rights negotiations after losing approx 20 million potential audience members in Southern California. I don't think that the P12 is a feasible entity without USC or UCLA.
