I just can't believe that USC/UCLA want to be the only west coast teams in a conference and have to take big flights back east to play almost every game in every sport.  It makes a lot more sense that they have gotten assurances that the B10 will add 2-4 more west coast teams.  That would make this totally doable.  Still play ~5 games on the west coast and travel a bunch less.

The question is who gets invited.  Here are the media markets:
LA  5.5
SF  2.5
PHX 1.9
SEA 1.8
DEN 1.6
SAC 1.4
PRT 1.1
SD 1.1
SLC 0.9

Not sure what either cal or Stanford really bring from the SF media market.  It is clearly the biggest but those schools don't draw.  Stanford's big advantage will be the strength of both our overall program but also both our football & hoop teams which have sucked recently, actually have at least a history of being pretty good at times.

UW makes a ton of sense - big market - strong sports programs - only really need one school.

Both ASU & CO seem to make sense from a media perspective.  But both have limited history of success other than CO in football 30+ years ago.

UO only makes sense if you don't care about media but they have a strong programs.  Also may need to take to get UW.

If Washington, Oregon, Stanford, kal went too, that could limit the travel time for the LA teams and also preserve some of the rivalries across a bunch of sports.  Also, B1G apparently likes AAU schools and those 4 fit.  Regarding actual draw on TV markets, they supposedly got Rutgers for the NY market which is even more of a stretch than Stanford/kal.

If the presidents have a say, that could be part of the negotiations.  Preserve rivalries, limit travel time.
