i would think it would hurt recruiting. why would you go to ucla to play half your games on the east coast? why not just go to penn state in the first place?

Especially in the non-revenue sports. What student athlete, yes, student, would want to spend a ton of time traveling. Even with a few additional schools from the west, it's still a nightmare.

I am sure that playing football or soccer or baseball will be a real joy when it is 90 degrees with 80 percent humidity which has been known to occur in the Midwest.  Back in the day when Stanford was playing Big Ten Style Football the other teams in the Pac 12 did not look forward to the physical beating, especially usc and ucla, now those two will get pounded on by Hardballs, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinios, Minn. and Michigan State just for grins.
