yes, very expensive to travel across country for 8 games (more in basketball), but perhaps the extra tv revenue more than compensates

but also a real hardship for the students to fly cross country twice during a school week. you basically have to leave a day earlier to get from here to the midwest/east coast. minneapolis is non-stop 4 1/2 hours but penn state is 2 flights and 9 hours total (each way)

even most pro leagues have geographic divisions (presumably) to cut down on travel.
