Traditions do evolve, but that evolution takes time. At one time Kal actually was more of a rival to Stanford than U$C. Hasn't been the case for years, but it also took years to adjust that relationship. The current entirely money-driven football system requires quick changes by the participants. Traditions can't change that fast and are thus destroyed. No way around it.
