The LA Times has an article on how usc-ucla joining the big 10 will impact non-revenue/Olympic sports for each school. Could be a paywall article.
Not much discussion regarding travel issues. In many of the sports the LA schools will benefit being in the big 10 since that have not been able to win very many if any conference championships.
