The South Carolina game Nov 20 at Stanford

Cam will play power forward this season (and next) to take advantage of her emerging multiple skill sets, which means we will probably see Prechtel in the post, at least for this game, defending Boston (you need size, length and strength against her) with Betts playing significant minutes.  My way-too-early keys to the game:  Minimize Boston's offense; Get the ball to our two All-Americans early and often; Cam must play 28-30 minutes; more defensive pressure on the perimeter and REBOUND.

Our best players are mostly 4's and 5's so the coaches will have to figure out a way to keep those players on the floor without losing spacing on offense.  Good defensive teams will just sag on defense making it hard for a player like Jones to drive or Belibi/Brink/Betts to utilize their post moves because there will always be a second or third defender near by.  Belibi is a 4 and Betts is a 5.  And Brink and Iriafen can play either 4 or 5.  I think those are the majority of our post minutes.  Jones mostly played as a 4 last year so she will likely shift to the 3.  However, we could also see her move to PG.  I think the other two positions go to our best shooters because we absolutely need the spacing.  If her defense holds up and she doesn't get tired, Jump might never leave the floor since she is by far our best shooter.  Then I think we will see Demetre and Prechtel get a lot of minutes as the second shooter.  Neither of them are threats to drive from the perimeter but that's ok because we tend to pass into the post vs drive and then pass anyways.  And Demetre and Prechtel have a lot of size to see over the defense to make said passes.  The final player will probably be a freshman/redshirt freshman ball handler (Nivar, Lepolo, Harriel) to give Jones some help bringing up the ball against pressure.  Bosgana might be able to fill this role if she can minimize her turnovers.

I understand the challenges of scheduling, but I wish this game could have been scheduled in December and not November 20th.  Practice is one thing, but our team- with new faces, certainly a new starting lineup and new plays (some likely designed for Brink who's now at a 4) - needs game experience.  I think we can all agree that last season we were not ready for Texas after playing a meaningless exhibition game and a small Morgan State team.  I'm not sure how many games we will play before South Carolina, but I hope one or two of them will be against some good opposition.

Agree totally about Jump and spacing.  Let's hope Jump can have one of her better games on Nov. 20th.
