If the U.S. can get the Saudis to cozy up to Israel and also produce more oil, for the price of an MBS photo op with POTUS, it's probably a worthwhile price to pay. And I can see a lot of merit in the notion the only way to reform the Saudi society is to empower MBS and reward him for making them.

The world is a very complicated and intertwined set of relationships that makes adhering exclusively to your own values pretty much impossible.
