Off the wall question. This tournament has low tv presence. I doubt they can get much revenue at the gate. How are the organizers making money?? (Sports economist mode kicks in.)

I have wondered about this same question with any number of these.  Sometimes they don't make money.  Remember the one in Vancouver that got cancelled until they scrambled to fine a gym in Victoria at the last minute?  We played Vic Schaeffer's Mississippi State team, I think, the year before he abandoned them to move to Texas.  But that one almost did not come off.

I suspect this one is done by U Hawaii, because travel costs are exorbitant for Hawaii athletics and they can use the lure of the islands to get more games at home.  This is the second WBB tournament in 2 weeks for them, after all.

Others seem to be done by resorts and hotels to try to get tourists to come at slack times.  For them, TV is a detriment.

But I'd love to hear from people who really know how all these weekend tournaments are financed.
