i just skimmed through the video looking at the sidelines out of bounds plays. imo the 5-second call was a mess. the team appears to screen as if the ball will be coming from the baseline. for example, in a similar earlier play, the team lined up in their usual box around the key. haley was near-side, low post. she used her nearside high post screen to get free to receive the ball.

in that unfortunate last minute play, haley was sidelines throwing the ball in. hannah started in that same near-side, low post position but screened towards the basket instead of moving towards mid court.  talana was far-side, high post and screened towards the baseline, but kiki, far-side and low post did not use the screen of either talana or hannah to get free. we had no one using her available screen.

at the game i thought, well haley should have tossed the ball in and taken the 50% chance we would come down with the ball. looking at the replay, south carolina had position while we were screening. tossing the ball in would almost certainly have resulted in a live-ball turnover and easy basket for s carolina.

i was reminded that a few years ago, ros gold-onwude was calling a game and made a snarky comment to the effect of, "there's that box formation for the inbounds play again; tara only has one inbounds play."

the team had just come out of a time-out. whatever the coaches discussed during the time-out, i'd guess it was neither the in-bounds play nor the lack of remaining time-outs.
