The desire for Berkeley to not appear to be a notch below UCLA has to be worth something to the regents, no?

Wouldn’t that be admitting that the Pac-12 is notch below the Big 10?

Given that advantages of the PAC-12 in terms of rivalries and travel, it would be unwise for the Regents to undermine the PAC-12 further in this way.

It is amazing how many people equate money with better (even many on this board).

Stanford did not hire the most expensive coach it could find;  it hired the coach who was the best fit.  Stanford and the Pac-12 can have a satisfying future while living on a budget.

Well, the money is one thing. And we don't have to say that it makes one conference better than the other, but that's one factor that's hard to ignore.  

There's also the fact that the Big Ten will be the new "Conference of Champions." And the implicit endorsement the LA schools are giving that conference over this one by moving to it.  They are the poachers.  We are the poached.  

Already after today's decision there are Bruins crowing about how this makes them the clear state flagship. The regents had to know that kind of feeling would emerge.

Sounds like someone is suffering from an inferiority complex….
