thanks for posting these links. wow, in his letter to the faculty mtl is great at mis-direction - almost as good as brock purdy blinding the seahawks to kittle running free. mtl seems to say, more or less, 

"the concerns are old news...
please direct your attention to the following cases where it wasn't my responsibility...
please direct your attention to the following  cases where it was my responsibility, but the changes are cosmetic and were common practice...
please direct your attention to the following cases where the journal dropped the ball...
recently there have been other concerns which i shall neither name nor address."
