I find it very notable that shortly after Progozhin's march began, Surovikin spoke via video to urge the Wagner group to return to their stations. As I recall, he did so several hours before Putin spoke publicly.

However, an analyst favorite of mine believes---if the arrest news is even true, that is---Surovikin likely had nothing to do with Progozhin's march and is instead a victim of the prevailing politics:
