As a point of comparison against another school that has a football team, UC Davis sponsors 9 men's and 15 women's sports. Fresno State sponsors 6 men's and 11 women's sports.
UC Irvine (without a football team) sponsor's 9 men's and 9 women's sports.
Stanford currently sponsors 16 men's and 20 women's sports. A number of those will have to go.
Who is going to want to have the AD job that basically amounts to slashing the workforce and reorganizing into a much smaller company after chapter 11? This is just so sad.
This is an entirely plausible, perhaps even likely, outcome but it doesn’t have to be this way. Stanford has far more well heeled alums than those other institutions who are fully capable of bankrolling all of the Olympic sports. The question is will they have the appetite to do so.
