Cooper Rush is #2. Lance is gonna be #3.
Correct, that is why I say “may” this year. Next year, Lance will be #2 since the contract Rush signed is easy to terminate after this season.

My suspicion is this whole thing went down like this:
- Niners signed Darnold not knowing when Purdy would be back
- Lance and Darnold were told it is open competition for #1 until Purdy is back
- Purdy came back sooner than expected and was made #1 because neither Lance or Darnold did enough competing for #1 to show they were better that Purdy
- Lance and Darnold were then told they were in competition for #2
- Darnold beat out Lance for #2
- Lance asked to be traded if the Niners could find a place for him
- The Niners, being a player-friendly organization decided to look around and see what they could get
- The best offer was a 4th rd pick for Lance and his full contract, so they acted in their own interest (as they should)
- The fact it was to a team where he would be #3 again is a risk Lance took when asking to be traded
- Seems safe to assume Lance was thinking he could at least get a #2 job this year when he asked for trade
IOW, I can't see Lance being too happy being #3 somewhere else. At least the Niners liked him and felt some kind of loyalty to him in the sense they wanted him to succeed since they gave up so much to get him. He will not have that dynamic in Dallas. They will cut him in a heart beat, whereas the Niners would be more patient.
Moreover, Darnold is also on a one year deal and will be a free agent too. And, Dallas right now has more money allocated to QBs in 2024 than any team in the NFL, a full 28% of projected salary cap. Meanwhile, the Niners right now (without Darnold signed) have less than 1% of cap allocated to QBs in 2024.
Sounds like you listened to Shanahan's post game presser.
Though I think you missed the mention above that, according to multiple reports, Brandon was ahead of Trey, making Trey #4 with the Niners.
Free Phogge!!!! And no, crimson doesn't refer to the Tide.
