In the rowing world, SMU, Stanford, and kal to the ACC would upend a lot of apple carts.  The current ACC rowing scene is led by Virginia, a resurgent Syracuse, and Duke.  Stanford won the championship last year, and kal is historically strong though currently in a rebuilding phase.  SMU wins their tiny conference every year for an automatic championship bid, but they are actually fast, and all three programs entering the ACC would probably push Duke out of the NCAAs, and maybe Syracuse too.

Mrs. Mick met a few Stanford rowing recruits in Palo Alto the other day. She said they looked as if they stepped off of a SoCal beach. Entire family tall and athletic. Sounded excited about the prospects of rowing for Stanford. Also looking at Harvard and Princeton.

The rowing scene on the Charles is pretty tough to beat. Constant presence of teams and individuals sculling up and down the river, boathouses galore. . .

The Harvard women's team (which traditionally still rows under the Radcliffe moniker) had been underachieving for over a decade before finally having their head coach replaced this offseason.  I suspect a good selling point for Radcliffe is that a bunch of stockpiled, underutilized talent would be an instant medal contender.  Princeton had a very good run this year, the best in recent memory, but they still got beat by Stanford (national champion!) and Washington.  

Stanford has a seemingly very athlete-centric squad culture and the benefit of rowable water nearly every day of the year.  Boston and Princeton get frozen off their water every winter.  What's not to like more about Stanford? :)
