And yet (with the exception of the Bowlsby-Harbaugh years), that is where Stanford (administration, faculty and alumni) seem to be comfortable. Despite all of the words communicated to students about "staying hungry" and "continually challenging yourself", Stanford as a school generally sticks to its comfort zone. Like any large, bureaucratic organization, it's hard to challenge the status quo.
