Historically, Purdy is accurate from deep. Last year, against the Commanders and for the four games prior, he completed over 70% of his passes that were 10 yards or more. I don't know why he missed those passes, whether he was under pressure, whether his receivers have lost a step or if he was overly concerned about not throwing interceptions (he said in his post-game interview that the game came down to not turning the ball over -- and remember, he fumbled last game). It's his second game back after major surgery...I suspect he will continue to fine tune his throwing and will miss fewer of those. And of course, he had several successful sneaks...
Breath of relief after Moody went three for three with one from 57 yards. Great pickup and worth the third round pick, I suspect. Wishnowsky punted well, averaging nearly 50 yards per punt.
McCaffrey's second straight of immense proportions game. And Deebo stepped it up after Aiyuk went down, with 38 yards on five attempts. Supposedly Aiyuk's shoulder isn't too bad. Still...only four days until their Thursday night game, the first of two.
Feeling a bit better about the OL...they gave up one sack, zero tackles for losses, one pass deflected and three quarterback hits. By contrast, the Niner defense had a sack, two tackles for loss, seven passes deflected and six quarterback hits.
Stafford -- an excellent quarterback -- had a passer rating of 67.8. Niner defense really got going when Wilks decided to be true to his roots and start blitzing more.
I thought Oliver acquitted himself well after getting a bit of a bad name.
Bottom line: 49ers have scored the third most points in the league, with 30 two games in a row. Among teams that have played two games, they're tied for 2nd in the NFL in points allowed with 30 (behind the Cowboys with 10 and the Chiefs with 30).
- Purdy is 9th in the NFL in passer rating. One of eight QBs who haven't thrown an interception.
- McCaffrey is first in rushing yards with 268. Next most is Bijan Robinson with 180.
- Aiyuk is 11th in receiving yardage (Zach Ertz is 13th in receptions with 12)
- Moody is T4 for most field goals with six. Aubrey, Elliott and Folk have seven. Elliott (Eagles) is having an interesting year...he's 3/4 from 50 yards and further...including a 61 yarder.
- Ray Ray is 9th in average per punt return.
And Ty Montgomery is #2 in the league, averaging 31 yards per kickoff return.
Agree with most of what was said. People, including myself, definitely underestimated the Rams coming into this year based on last year when Stafford was unealthy. A healthy Stafford is still a top 10 QB overall, and probably top 3 as a pure passer when it comes to running the kind of quick pass offense the rams were using to neutralize our pass rush. Their Oline also looked solid, they still have playmakers on defense, though are a bit thin. Add in the fact that they found a stud in Nacua and solid coaching, and they are going to be a tough out, especially when Kupp comes back.
From our end I'm surprised it took us until after halftime to mix in more blitz and different coverages to disrupt their timing, as Stafford is a master of the timing throws and was just picking us apart.
Brock was a solid B. We scored 30 points. He didn't turn the ball over. He obviously missed a few throws that could have been big, but its a great thing when a "bad" game for your QB involves no turnovers and just missing a few shots while making his layups. It's the game where Steph Curry goes 10/15 with 25 points but 0/5 from 3. You'll take it. A Jimmy G good game usually involved at least 1 pick.
Looking around the league Brock is looking better and better relative to his peers.
