The discussions that have centered around Coach Prime have made it clear that it would be inappropriate to draw a line in the sand between good and evil, and plunk him down on one side or the other. He is bearing out to be a complex, ambiguous, and polarizing figure. If I were to have a beef with his personage, it wouldn't really be anything about the demeanor of Deion himself. Rather it would be about the hanky-panky that goes on at the periphery of his program. I mean, the DJ who was mixing his hip-hop muck over the jumbotron while Stanford was in formation on offense, and had to get a warning from the ref?
And about the 70 or so former Buffalo players on scholarship who got run off and are now scattered around parts unknown -- before last Friday I would have had some pity and sympathy for them but they are all now a little bit less woebegone since they can turn their gaze back in the direction of Boulder, and snicker quietly to themselves about the wild rodeo of a game that Coach Prime inadvertently spared them.
