USC has always been mercenaries, and always paid players, legal or not. 

NIL and the transfer portal will ensure USC never misses the CFP ever again when it expands to 12, barring some sort of team implosion. Makes me want to puke, but that's the reality.

I guess they had to pay Caleb Williams too much to afford a defense this year, but I don't expect this trend to continue.
