Somewhat in support of my previous points. The situation in the air is puzzling. Ukraine clearly doesn't have the forces to execute a SEAD plan and achieve enough (at least) local air superiority to severely damage Russian defensive positions. Russia actually does, but apparently lacks the will to try. It was never really in their tactical doctrine, but they have had time to adapt. So far, they have not. Ukraine is apparently hoping the F-16s are going to (at a minimum) enable them to keep Russian air off Ukrainian troops. If that happens, Ukraine CAN move across the open areas behind the Russian defenses without too much fear of airborne interference. That will help a lot. Obviously, waiting for a technological solution is too much wishful thinking to be taken seriously.
