Shanahan and Wilks need to be on top of their game. For me, the Eagle loss started when Shanahan failed to challenge the long reception by DeVonta Smith on 4th and 3 on the first drive. Replays indicated he didn't catch it.
Hopefully Shanahan now has a better process than him looking up at the video board in the stadium to make challenge calls. Perhaps the Eagles are only going to show favorable replays in their stadium? Like maybe Kyle should have a coach in the booth responsible for watching the TV replays who can have messages relayed to him in real time? MLB and NHL team benches are always looking at TV replays before deciding to challenge calls or not. Seems it should be very easy to do this in the NFL.
Every team has a person in the coaches box who relays information pertaining to replays to the sideline. The problem in Philadelphia is that the replay that revealed the dropped ball was not available until it was too late.
One can criticize Shanahan for not challenging when he saw Smith signal to his teammates to hurry up and get the next snap off (a clue something was amiss). But no one can suggest the 49ers don’t have a system in place in the coaches box to review every play
