Deebo Samuel made clear in comments yesterday that the Niners are not making too big of a deal out of the game this week. He also said Brock Purdy has not made any mention of last year's game in terms of any kind of redemption factor.

So as much as most people not playing or coaching the game attaches great meaning to it, the players are not. But I would argue Hassan Reddick talking about the NFC CG in which he knocked Purdy out, shows he is thinking about the past more than the Niners are, and wanting them to think about it so they don't focus on this week.

Anyway, as for the game, here are the numbers that matter the most to me:

Niners Run Defense: 4.0 YPC and Niners Run Offense: 4.5 YPC = +.5 YPC Niners Rush Differential
Eagles Run Defense: 4.1 YPC  and Eagles Run Offense: 4.2 YPC = +.1 YPC Eagles Rush Differential

Niners Pass Efficiency: 111.5 and Niners Pass D Efficiency: 77.1 = +34.4 PER Differential
Eagles Pass Efficiency:  94.9 and Eagles Pass Efficiency D: 94.8 = +.01 PER Differential

Niners Turnover Margin: #1
Eagles Turnover Margin: #19

These numbers say the Niners run the ball better, pass the ball better, and get more possessions per game. 

My overall conclusion:

The Eagles have the 27th ranked Pass Defense. Purdy lit up the Bucs' 26th ranked unit for a perfect Passer Rating. My question is will Shanahan lean into Purdy to carry the team with his arm, because if going by logic, it makes sense for the Niners to have Purdy's NFL leading passer rating mercilessly attack the Eagles' Pass D and in so doing match or exceed his career high 37 pass attempts in this game.

Of course there is a caveat to this. The stats also show Purdy isn't as effective without a complimentary ability to run, as the games with his most passes attempted yielded a 5.8 and 8.7 YPA. His most efficient passing games have been with less than 30 attempts. This is probably true for most QBs. I'd love nothing more than to see the Niners run the ball down the Eagles' throat and have Purdy throw no more than 20 times, but I'd also love to see Purdy have a big passing day, and it seems if you had to lean more on run or pass to win, it would be pass. It's been a while since the Niners had a QB who could cary them if need be. Purdy sure seems capable.
