I don't find this to be much of a compelling argument. All it tells me is that the quarterback didn't get it done earlier in the game. I find it hard to fault Purdy for succeeding earlier in games and forestalling the need for a fourth quarter comeback.

4th quarter performance in big games defines QBs.  When you think of Montana what comes to mind?  When you think of Garrapolo failures with Niners what do you think of?

Purdy hasn’t had those  chances.  He will.  No reason to think he won’t be a good big game 4th Q QB.

Garoppolo had the same number of 4th quarter comeback wins as Patrick Mahomes, Roger Staubach and Steve Young. Should I think of him as roughly equivalent to those quarterbacks?

When I think of Montana, I think of the third best quarterback ever behind Graham and Brady. I think of him winning four Super Bowls and battles with Steve Young. He's #17 on the list for 4th quarter comebacks tied with Tannehill and behind Brady, Peyton Manning, Roethlisberger, Ryan, Brees, Stafford, Unitas, Marino, Elway, Wilson, Rivers, Tarkenton, Testaverde, Derek Carr, Favre, and Eli Manning.  Brady, I get...he's started more games than anyone. 

I guess I don't think of it as an important statistic. Best QB in history IMHO, Otto Graham, is #97, tied with Craig Morton, Mike Phipps and Lynn Dickey.
