At a certain point, you have to wonder if the goal isn’t actually to sign these guys but to look like you’re trying to sign them solely to mollify the fan base. I think he’s much better at signing people on the margins: bounce back deals, flawed platoon guys. This year was an opportunity to upgrade a boring roster of second tier guys. Even if Lee turns out to be great (fingers crossed), this isn’t a contending roster even if Chapman gets signed.
