Hi guys, Cal fan coming over to your board. It's interesting to see how y'all deal with the portal, and fascinating how your admin doesn't seem to view this as an urgent structure that needs addressing. Obviously it's very difficult with the academics to get guys accepted in- but pretty much every program lives and dies by the portal now. I really think this is make or break; teams have to be able to acquire top talent from the portal and also losing some non-producing players via attrition to the portal is also a good thing.

How concerned are you about the portal interfacing with Stanford's restrictive academics in this day and age? Do you think TT can build a program almost exclusively from prep recruiting? Do you think your admin can make adjustments? I'm interested because it really doesn't seem like there's urgency to solve this, and I really think it's close to impossible to build a championship caliber program without dealing with the portal realities of today's CFB landscape. Just a little surprised that a smart school like Stanford may not see how devastating the portal will be to your efforts.

If you are doing a good job of prep recruiting and you develop and retain them, you don't need to bring in massive numbers from the portal. The teams that are bringing in the most transfers and losing the most through the portal.
If you bring in a lot of players through the portal, you are showing your recruits you don't value them and will bail if transfers come in and take their opportunities. In Stanford's condition last year, that is not so much a problem, but if Taylor can build a decent roster through recruiting, he shouldn't need more than 5-7 transfers.
