I'm more enthusiastic. He does indeed have a +arm. If a mistake, not costly. Who else is left that is a better bet than this guy? You didn't like Stroman.
Montgomery. But I don’t think they can sign him. Snell who I’m confident they won’t sign - which if the contract projections are true- I heartily agree they should not sign.
I didn’t say it was a bad signing. Just think it’s highly unlikely Hicks outperforms Snell, Imanaga, Yamamoto and Stroman. Nothing in his past remotely suggests that level of pitcher. It’s a typical Giants low end deal.
He throws hard, no doubt. He’s also has had injury issues and relatively little success at MLB level. I have a hard time thinking of many pitchers converted from reliever to starter while in MLB. I know he has started a few games. But that didn’t work well. My guess is he ends up in bullpen.
As of today, the “rotation” is something like this:
Webb
Stripling
Harrison
Winn
Hicks
One stud, one 5/6 36 year old coming off a bad year. Two rookies and a converted reliever. Good luck with that.
I still think Giants need to add a real SP.
