The Giants just sent Ross Stripling and cash to the A's for a minor leaguer, Jonah Cox. He is unremarkable. I am hopeful that this is just a workaround to increase their available cap space in order to sign a big hitter like Bellinger or a big picture like Snell.

Last year’s acquisitions of Manea, Stripling, Haniger and Conforto sure are looking like great deals now.  What a waste of resources………..

Zaidi is the king of digging through the refuse pile in hopes of finding a discarded Rembrandt.  To date, that has yielded a bunch of worthless paintings by guys that are long forgotten……

I hope it isn’t too late to be welcomed to the Anti-Zaidi bandwagon……

This feels like a scene from Moneyball Part Deux. Zaidi: “We’re trading Stripling. No one will want to take his contract, so we’ll have to ship him out with cash. [Pause] Get the A’s on the phone.” Some underling holding an iPad pipes up: “Uh, but Farhan, this leaves us with only one starter with more than a half-year of MLB service time.” Farhan: “You’re forgetting Hicks. Hicks!” Underling starts to speak, stops, pivots to updating resume on LinkedIn.

Cut to Scott Boras’ office. “Hey Scott, the Giants just sold Stripling and cash to the A’s for some minor league OF who can’t hit.” Boras evil grin: “Zaidi is going to look like a total fool when the Angels match him for Snell.”

In all seriousness though, trading Stripling now does suggest that some other move is about to happen.

And the Giants kicked in just $3.25 million on a $12.5 million contract. So the A's are picking up the bulk of it. Giants now have slightly more than $54 million in cap availability before the luxury tax kicks in.

Snell's supposed asking price of $270 million/9 years is ridiculous for a guy who has had two great seasons...and six mediocre seasons, AND led the league in walks last year (admittedly led the league in fewest hits per nine innings). Yankees wouldn't go higher than six years, $150 mms. The only two teams who are left according to the rumors are the Angels and the Giants.  Would Farhan pull the trigger at 6 years, $180 million? And six years, $200 million for Bellinger?
