Interesting. I don't remember my specific scores, but I do remember crushing the ACT and being pretty middling on the SAT. I think the most important factors for success in college are the ability to get by on an hour or two of sleep every so often; the ability to subsist on pop tarts and bologna,  and the ability to find a hidey hole somewhere on campus to study away from all the women, alcohol, drugs, and midnight rat patrol hockey games back at the house.

Oddly enough this topic is kind of sort of back in the news at our household. After eight years and three deployments, the Marine will retire as a Captain and enter the corporate world, hopefully with a business degree.  He's interviewed at UVA, UNC, Duke, and Vandy and should find out mid-March whether he does that on the GI bill or has to find a job. He took the business school equivalent of the SAT and ACT and business schools are phasing out one of them. Fortunately he did well on the test they are not phasing out. I mean he does manage about 200 Marines right now.

He's 30 years old and recently called to see if we still had his ACT score. My response was something to the effect of why the eff would anyone care about that now. That includes me. We don't have your score. Call the college board.

P.S.  I did tell him that if I ever see him on TV with half a basketball painted blue on his head, he is no longer welcome here.  He said that even though Duke is his number two choice, he watched them play Clemson in basketball and found himself pulling for Clemson. If he does wind up at an ACC school and Stanford is on the schedule, he says his Stanford CMAC jersey is ready to go.

Congratulations to your son, both on his successful deployments, management of 200 Marines and soon-to-be entry into the corporate world. You must be quite proud!
