The damage that has been done so far is immense, but not fatal to Ukraine. I would not bet heavily that by August it will matter much. It is totally possible no more Ukraine aid will happen until after the next Congress is seated, and maybe not even then. By then, it will probably be a moot point. This issue has to be vocally and urgently made front and center now and a way found to send the aid IMO.
