Based on Melvin’s comments today, it is possible that Slater may start the season on the IL with Matos taking his place on the roster.  If so, Matos would platoon with Yaz in RF.

And if Matos rakes, Slater’s S.F. days could be over.  The injuries just pile up.  Too bad.  Hes a good player.  Has to be frustrating for him.

If Slater had enough career stolen base attempts (minimum is 80, he has 51), he would rank second all-time for stolen base percentage at 88.2%. Leader is Byron Buxton at 89.6%

I wonder if the Giants would be at all inclined to retain Bart. Murphy can't play defense at all, and Bart is actually pretty good defensively speaking.

They went out and got Murphy cause they don’t believe Bart is a decent backup.

Well, last year Murphy threw out one runner in 28 stolen base attempts, and if you've seen him throw this spring, you'd think there is something very physically wrong with his arm. Doesn't even include the fact that Bart is hitting .385 and Murphy is hitting .233. or that Bart's OBP is .500 and Murphy's is .296.

Giants have 18 errors in 23 preseason games. Hopefully they will settle down in the regular season.

Incidentally, Giants are 11-10-2 after starting the season 0-4-2. Of the 15 teams in the Cactus League, the Giants are in 5th place.

The Giants knew Murphy’s percentage of throwing runners out before they went and signed him.  

Spring training numbers are meaningless in this instance  (in fact in most instances). Unless Bailey or Murphy get hurt, Bart is I think gone. There’s no question about that. The only way he stays is if the Giants designate him for assignment  no team picks him up.  But I doubt that will happen.

Murphy went 3 for 3 today with a home run, his line is now .316/.400/.500/.900. I say who cares about a few stolen bases?
