I heard Roger Munter latest podcast with Terry Crowley. Munter has a terrific website for those of you who are giant diehard. Unit he spoke of, things, Kyle Harrison. He is one of two pitchers 23 or under that are in starting rotations this year. Gives you an idea of how special Harrison is. He also pointed out that the secondary pitches are a work in progress.

he noted that when Logan Webb broke up with the Giants, he didn’t even have the sinker. He was four seam fastball guy. He learned the sinker after his debut.

Lower minor leagues, it was a slider that was Harrisons main secondary pitch. Now it’s a change up. Both our works in progress. I’m assuming he will meet both going forward. Also he’s dialed down the fastball. Was throwing around 97 atDeLaSalle now around 93-94. Not an accident. Possibly part of the Giants thought process in thinking Max Velo for a starting pitcher, leads to more injuries. He also pointed out. Giants organizationally are very sinker heavy.

Another point he made – which is somewhat disturbing – is that the Giants organizationally have had a hard time hitting fastballs. It was a big issue up and down the minor leagues last year.
