It’s worth noting that the speaker appears to have had a legitimate change of heart after being briefed by the intelligence services, and he put his job on the line. More than half of Republicans voted against the bill. There’s a pending motion to discharge the speaker with enough cosponsors that unless he gets help from democrats, he will lose the speakership. Regardless of how one might feel about his politics, I give him credit for showing a spine.

Agree with you here. He did the "right thing". Not often found in today's politics.

All democrats present voted in favor; a narrow majority of Republicans voted against.

Sadly, IMO many of the Republican's voting against did so for political reasons, not out of their own conviction. Sadly, that too appears to be becoming more the norm.
