The rest is spot on. It’s essentially Charlie Dressen  time “the Giants is dead.” But it’s not 1951 and there was no Willie Mays  in the farm system. Heck there’s not even a Willie Kirkland.

The scoreboard showed Bailey on the short list of batters available for pinch hitting duties in the 9th and 10th.  When we didn't see him at the plate it was a warning sign this could be serious (just as you mention above!).
