wnba leaders in blocks are cam and alanna smith tied at 3.7 per game each. next best is aja wilson with 2.7
Was fortunate to be at that game in person. Cam had terrific first and fourth quarters, where she played within herself and was changing the game on both ends. I sense her being a little more calm and controlled than at Stanford, probably because the caliber of her teammates is higher, and she doesn't feel like she has to do as much. When she trusts her teammates, she's just such an impact player. But I sensed her getting frustrated in the second and third quarters, and Old Brink was back, committing dumb fouls and trying to do too much. But man is she fun to watch, and she's easily the Sparks' most popular player, already, by a mile, based on fan response.
As for the rest of the team, Rickea Jackson is a bucket. In the first quarter she was playing a little out of control (she racked up three fouls pretty quickly), but then calmed down and was really steady the rest of the way. She and Cam are both so disruptive on both ends and a lot of fun to watch together. And Hamby is just a stud, hands down. Man is she a pro's pro. Unfortunately, the Sparks guards just weren't cutting it, and I think they really let the forwards down with mediocre distribution and a lot of lazy (and ineffective) outside shooting.
And I'll say this: the CC show is a show. Place was packed, rowdy, and by far the best, loudest vibe I've ever seen for a women's game. I'll give her credit for that. But man, does she whine a lot. Gets tiresome after a while. But all credit to her, she's bringing in a ton of new fans to the game, and they seem to like what they're seeing.
