Appreciate the input, Mick.  Sorry I wasn't more precise.  I really meant to ask if any team had finished the regular season under .500 and still gone on to the playoffs.....

Right, of course. No team finished the regular season with a sub-.500 record and made the playoffs, the Mets at 82-79 were the closest.

During the COVID 60 game season in 2020, both the Brewers and the Astros finished 29-31 in an expanded playoffs featuring 16 of the 30 MLB teams. The Brewers lost, two games to zero, in the WC series to the Dodgers. The Astros did surprisingly well, winning the wild card (2-0) over the Twins, then the ALDS over the A's (3-1), losing in the ALCS to the Rays (4-3).

The Dodgers won the WS in that truncated year, hence it's pure illegitimacy... ;)
