BobK is the expert but in my view, that was the best race of Fisher's life! About 10 seconds slower than his PR but what a brilliant race, and the last lap showed his superb conditioning. I think Fisher is the first US men's medalist in the 10K since Galen Rupp. And the Stade de France was roaring with noise for the entire race.

That's an easy one. His PR was set in pristine weather conditions in a rabbited, time trial-type effort. This was in relatively warm and muggy conditions (big difference) in a choppy and competitive high-stakes race in which time didn't matter. It's probably "worth" 26:25 in better conditions. AND of course he got an Olympic medal. In that field, just amazing. Unlike Galen, I'd bet anything that Grant is a clean athlete too.
