Good article about how the NCAA feeds the Olympics, with Stanford being mentioned, though the article incorrectly omits that the cuts were rescinded.  But the point stands; Stanford, with the second most athletes on the games, and probably the most medals, was pretty close to cutting several sports a few years ago, and the financial situation is not going to get any better for the non-revenue sports. Last bullet:

"So that's the one concern ... are there going to be sports being dropped?" Robinson said. "Because at the end of the day, the football dog must get fed."

I think this will probably be the high water mark for Stanford in the Olympics and perhaps for NCAA current and former athletes. I can easily imagine a few years from now, Team USA will suffer because of the profesionalization of collegiate athletics.
