Geez guys, debating Pittsburghs catchers rather than celebrating a much needed, bounce back win?!? 21 and 10 should be enough from here on out. With our starting pitching, doable. . . .

Then again, we've gone 5 and 5 with the same starters over the last 10. . . .

I think of Bart's loss and the decision to use Casali, Murphy, Sabol, Reetz, and Knapp as emblematic of Farhan's decision making. And while we're on the subject of stupid Giants decisions, three of Pittsburgh's top four hitters (Reynolds, Bart, McCutchen) were formerly Giants. Bart and Reynolds were high draft picks. If Joey Bart had enough ABs, he'd be 12th in MLB in OPS at .885. We currently have two hitters at .885 or higher; Grant McCray (.898) and Tyler Fitzgerald (.921). Hope we don't trade them away.

Trading Bart was the right move for both him and the Giants.  Had he stayed with SF he would have languished behind Bailey and never received an opportunity to see the field regularly.  Heck, even in Pittsburgh, he is still no better than the #2 at this point.  However, he might eventually get a shot at being the #1, something that never would have happened in San Francisco.  

Note:  Bart is back on the IL and the Pirates have recalled Henry Davis, a former #1 overall draft choice.  

Also, suggesting that Bart would be among the OPS league leaders if he had enough AB’s assumes that he could maintain the results he has produced via a limited number of appearances to a season long performance.  The odds of that happening are extremely unlikely given his track record since his rookie year.

Quite frankly, the same goes for Fitzgerald and McCray - it is a major stretch to suggest that either player would be able to maintain that level for an entire year at this point in their careers.  

There is a reason for requiring a minimum number of PA’s to qualify for being listed among the best players - sustained results, something Bart has failed to produce to date in his career. 

I am not a fan of Zaidi but this was one move that was made for all the right reasons - giving a young guy who was blocked by a better player at the only position he could play a chance to start someday elsewhere.  

Lastly, (unrelated to Bart, specifically), why is it that fans only comment on trades that don’t work out and never those that do?  

Zaidi has a pretty good track record of dealing player for player.  Where he has failed miserably is in free agency.  Overall, his decisions in that arena have been lousy.
