Trading Bart was the right move for both him and the Giants.  Had he stayed with SF he would have languished behind Bailey and never received an opportunity to see the field regularly.  Heck, even in Pittsburgh, he is still no better than the #2 at this point.  However, he might eventually get a shot at being the #1, something that never would have happened in San Francisco.  

Note:  Bart is back on the IL and the Pirates have recalled Henry Davis, a former #1 overall draft choice.  

Beyond Bart's first four years, I believe he's a pretty well-established 2nd string catcher. I don't think the Giants "owe" him a shot at the starting role, although, given Bailey's now well-established tendency to break down and perform poorly on offense, well...okay. I still think Bart (comp. is $770k) would have been a better choice as #2 over Murphy ($4 mms and a terrible defensive catcher), Casali ($1 mms), and the MLM's Reetz, Knapp or Sabol.

Also, suggesting that Bart would be among the OPS league leaders if he had enough AB’s assumes that he could maintain the results he has produced via a limited number of appearances to a season long performance.  The odds of that happening are extremely unlikely given his track record since his rookie year.

Quite frankly, the same goes for Fitzgerald and McCray - it is a major stretch to suggest that either player would be able to maintain that level for an entire year at this point in their careers.  

I'm not suggesting that any of the three could maintain that level for any specific period of time. I'm merely comparing their results to full-timers. Bart's had 219 plate appearances and Fitzpatrick has had 236, though...it's not like they've had 30 PA's.

Lastly, (unrelated to Bart, specifically), why is it that fans only comment on trades that don’t work out and never those that do?  

Same reason my wife doesn't give me attaboys when I fix a broken curtain rod or fencepost or take out the garbage. It's expected. I sure hear it about the failures, though.

Also...I think there's been more failures than successes. Giants' first round picks ranking last in collective WAR over the past 10 years, for example.

Zaidi has a pretty good track record of dealing player for player.  Where he has failed miserably is in free agency.  Overall, his decisions in that arena have been lousy.

Look at his overall won-loss track record, particularly his track record without Kapler. Extremely poor. His players' (FA, deals or draft choices) haven't measured up on pitching, hitting or fielding.

He gets a pass for the first season after Bochy's last three disastrous years and Evans' disastrous player moves. He had the same record as two playoff teams in 2020 and 2021 was exceptional. Last three years, not good.
