According to Ken Rosenthal and a few others, Blake Snell will opt out after the 2024 season. On the one hand, he's had a strong season when he wasn't injured. No-hitter, 15 strikeouts in six innings (first pitcher in 120 years to do that), Giants have won 9 of 11 starts, 1.42 ERA since May 1, best in MLB by 1/2 run.
And yet...he's been on the injured list twice this season. His last start was one inning, two runs. He's only pitched 87 innings, he's 2-3 in 17 starts. We know he likes it in SF, he likes playing for BoMel.
Could he be an early signee, like Chapman? Chapman, I get...durable, terrific player, best fielding third baseman in the game. Snell...probably under "antonym" for durable. He's nearly the best in the business when he's on, but he has only pitched more than 130 innings twice in nine years.
Snell implied that it was in the Giants' court. Maybe they are talking...but Boras has already said he expects Snell to do much better than this past deal.
