In Baggerly’s latest column, he indicated that “according to sources”, Posey took the lead on the Chapman signing after ownership felt things were not going quickly enough.  

Of course, to be fair to Zaidi, Posey was able to deal directly with Chapman (cutting Boras out of the loop) whereas Zaidi was obligated to communicate with Boras regarding any negotiations.  

Could ownership be getting a bit tired of Zaidi?  Hmmmmm……

Boras claims that Farhan did all the negotiating and fine-print adjustments, and that Posey talked directly with Chapman because Zaidi is technically not allowed to do so during this stage. Doesn't keep Kurtenbach from lobbying for Zaidi's firing. In yesterday's screed, DK referred to it as a calamity and thinks Zaidi is the Peter Principle personified.

And speaking of Boras clients...I didn't know this, but Blake Snell is the sixth-highest paid starting pitcher (not including Ohtani). Verlander, Scherzer, deGrom, Cole and Strasburg are slightly ahead. Last year, Snell's only offer was six years, $150 mms. from the Yankees and he countered with nine years, $270 mms. Not sure the Yanks even responded.

Last night, Snell struck out 12 and gave up three hits in the Giants' 10-0 victory over the Orioles with the third best record in the AL (Stephen Vogt's Guardians have the second best record. GREAT manager). Since coming off disabled list in early July, Snell has the best ERA among starting pitchers by 1/2 run per game at 1.33. The Giants have won 13 of Snell's 16 starts, and have lost 15 of their last 23.

What are the odds that the Giants keep Snell? How much would it take?
