I hope you guys are right.  However, I have little confidence the ownership group will make the “right” call.

UPDATE:  Move me into the Mick/Leftcoast column.  After listening to Baggerly on KNBR on the way home this afternoon from SFO, I think we will see a change in leadership.  Evidently, there are some Board members who are not happy and want to see someone new at the helm.  I am certainly more confident than I was yesterday.  We shall see…..

I'll probably take flak for this, but I think MLB has its share of "good ol' boy" syndrome, which works every bit as much against Farhan as his record does.  The reverse example would be Melvin.  I'm honestly hard pressed to see where he adds value, especially with motivating the young players.  What is it about 2nd string catchers that makes them managerial candidates?

I do think they both need to go.

Because they have time to analyze the game and “shadow manage”.  Heck, I can think of one backup C who has well enough to earn a HOF plaque as a manager.

Giants lost yesterday, dropping them to 79-81. They need to win their last two games to finish 81-81, .500. 

Blake Snell has opted not to pitch. He did say that if either the Giants were in the playoff chase or the Giants could play the spoiler, he would pitch.

Happily, that means that Stanford alum Tristan Beck gets the start. Hopefully, it works out, I'd like to see him in the rotation next year.

Good bye and good riddance.  Unprofessional.  I guess the 104 innings wore him out.

FWLIW, Snell says he wants to come back.

If the money is there, he will be back.  The problem is there are some teams with very deep pockets who will also be in pursuit of him.

As for bagging it a game early, with a very big payday coming, I understand his concern about exposing himself to a possible injury.  Since the game is meaningless, I have no problem with that at all.  Heck, Webb also begged off pitching tomorrow because he wants to focus on the upcoming birth of his first kid.  

It is not unusual for big time players to close up a game or two early if their teams have nothing to play for.  I would love to see him in a Giants uniform next year.

It'll take $200 mms. for Snell. My guess is he'll want something like seven years, $220 million. When he's on, he's unhittable. He is MLB's all-time career leader in strikeouts per inning at 11.2 K's per nine innings pitched and sixth all-time in fewest hits per nine innings at 6.89. In that last category, he's actually getting better...he's improved four of the last five seasons. The last two years, he's been at 5.8 and 5.6 which would put him ahead of Nolan Ryan (career leader) by almost a full hit per nine innings. At the same time, he pitched 104 innings this year, the seventh of nine years during his career when he's failed to hit 130 innings. He's the anti-Logan Webb in that regard.

Be interesting to see how much Soto gets from (I'm assuming) the Yankees. $31 million this year, he'll be 26 next year. He's worth $500 million.

I don't mind any vet taking the day off. Heck, I'm attending the game today, my first game of the year. I'd rather see Birdsong than Webb, and the way Fitzpatrick's playing, I'd rather see him than Chapman, and the rest of the youngsters.
