How about the equivalent of the pay-to-play $20M to pay the top ACADEMIC high school students to come to a school?
I'm not aware that schools pay above expenses for academic high performers?

If Stanford wanted to make a splash in the news world, that might do it.  Ditto for any school wanting to make a name for itself.

My spouse got paid to go to grad school at Berkeley (way back in the 90's) - waived all tuition and fees and got a stipend for other expenses with no obligation to be a TA or anything.
