I can't help thinking of WSJ article I happened upon in my workplace lunchroom maybe 20 years ago. It was about how the success of the Gonzaga men's basketball team not only brought oodles of money to the school, it brought many, many more admissions applications and allowed them to raise their admission standards. Many wins all around.

I'm personally aware of the Rise of the 'Zags. And thank you for the link to Wilner. It may be awhile until we see the GameDay setting up again at Chuck Taylor Grove but the right people are certainly now in charge of roster-building.  One quibble re Muir's ham-handedness during Shaw's demise: Bernie had access to David Shaw's throne room. Could he not have just engaged Shaw in some candid conversations and critiques during the Crap Years? Would not have hurt.
