Stanford favored by 1.5, O/U is 141.5, implied score is 71.5-70. Notre Dame has a record of 12-17, 6-12 in the ACC, 9-5 at home.
A win for Stanford would give them their first 20 win season since 2019-20. Stanford is currently in 7th place in the ACC and has clinched a first round bye in the ACC. A win in either of the last 2 games (or a loss by Georgia Tech at Wake Forest on Saturday) will clinch at least 7th place. They could still get up to 4th, 5th, or 6th, but that would require wins in both of the last 2 games (plus losses on Saturday for SMU, UNC, &/or Wake Forest), so we can hold off on thinking about that until after the Notre Dame game.
The Domers are currently tied with Cal in 13th place. They could finish anywhere from 10th through 16th, so they should be motivated to jockey for a somewhat better seed for the ACC tourney.
ND is led by Markus Burton (#3, 6'0/190 So G) who was voted to the preseason All-ACC 1st team. Last season he was the ACC Rookie of the Year, and in high school he was named Mr. Basketball in Indiana. He is averaging 21.1 ppg (he recently passed Maxime to become #1 in the ACC) on 45.1% FG shooting (12th in the ACC) and also averages 3.1 assists per game. He is 10th in steals (1.5/game) and tied with Maxime for 14th in 3pt FGs with 1.93/game. In their most recent 2 games, playing without 2 injured starters (more on that below), Burton has picked up the slack by scoring 30 points at Clemson, then 29 at Wake Forest. In those 2 games he shot 17-35 on FGs, 4-9 on 3s, and 21-23 on FTs.
Two other sure starters are Tae Davis (#7, 6'9/215 Jr F) and Kebba Njie (#14, 6'10/250 Jr F). Davis averages 15.8 ppg (15th) on 50.2% FG shooting (3rd). He averages 5.4 rpg. He is in his 2nd year as a starter at ND after spending his freshman year at Seton Hall. Njie leads the Domers with 6.1 rpg (20th) and averages 6.3 ppg on 55.2% shooting. He is also a 2nd year starter at ND after starting at Penn State as a freshman.
Two other players had been full-time starters until recent injuries.
-Braeden Shrewsberry, son of head coach Micah Shrewsberry, is out for the season. His 72 3pt FGs and his 3pt FG% (36.9%) are both 3rd in the ACC.
-Matt Allocco (#41, 6'4/190 Gr G) has missed 7 of the last 8 games with a wrist injury, but on Saturday it was reported that ND is hoping that he'll be able to return to action against Stanford. He averages 9.0 ppg and 3.0 assists/game. He shoots 45.5% on 3pt FGs and leads the ACC with an assist/TO ratio of 3.67. Allocco is a grad transfer from Princeton where he was 2nd team All-Ivy as a junior & senior.
In their most recent game (which Notre Dame led for most of the way before losing 74-71 at Wake Forest) the starters in place of Shrewsberry & Alloco were J.R. Konieczny (#20, 6'7/205 RJr G) and Nikita Konstantynovskyi (#25, 6'10/260 Gr F). Troy Clardy should have fun with those 2 names. Konieczny is a home-town kid who played HS basketball at St. Joseph HS in South Bend. Konstantynovskyi is from Kyiv, Ukraine, but has seen a lot of the U.S., spending 1 year at Northeastern A&M, 2 at Tulsa, 1 at Monmouth, before arriving in South Bend.
It's another big game for Stanford. A winnable road game - a chance for some success outside the friendly confines of Maples Pavilion.
